George Michael nine-metre permanent mural set to be revealed in London

London Borough of Brent has appointed British artist Dawn Mellor to paint a permanent nine-metre long mural of pop star George Michael.

The painting will be revealed next month, 19 September, in Kingsbury Road, North London, where the singer grew up.

The artwork was commissioned as part of Brent’s celebration as London Borough of Culture 2020 project, The Guardian reports.

George Michael gained his celebrity status in the 1980s with pop group Wham!, and went on to have great success as a solo singer.On Christmas day 2016, he died at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. He was 53 years old.

A coroner concluded his death was due to natural causes.

The mural of George Michael recognises the life and work of the celebrated singer-songwriter, who was from Brent in North London.
